I use Skype pretty much everyday to keep in touch with clients, whether it being a quick update via instant messaging (IM) to screen shares. Not to mention the odd coffee catch up. These are just a few features that I use and come in handy.
I have this feature on my own website, it’s another way for new and existing clients to get in touch if they have a query. You can set it up either as a call or chat and very it’s simple to do.
Head over to the Skype website and enter in your information, username, what you would like, call, chat or both. Customise your button and copy / paste the following script code into your website.
Working on a project with more than one person involved? No problem! You can now create a group conversation in the Skype window and invite or even share the conversation link out. What’s even better is the person you send it to doesn’t even need Skype installed on their computer. A web based version will load up instead.
This has to be the one Skype feature I could not live without. With screen sharing the client is able to see my screen or vice versa, it comes in handy when I need to show a client a design or bug fixing on a website. I can see what they see on the screen. During a call either video or audio click on the “+” icon, a menu will appear and select the Share Screen option. You can also access this by clicking on Call and Share Screens from the top menu.
File sharing through Skype is easy and you can pretty much send any type of document, photo and compressed zip file. Along the bottom of the chat window you have a few options, click on the type of file it is. Another way is to simply drag the file into the chat window hey presto… the power is yours!
